COMMUNITY & NOISE MANAGEMENT

MET’s development is guided by a simple belief: an airport should evolve with the community around it, not apart from it. That’s why we hold community roundtables — transparent, constructive forums where residents, municipal leaders, and MET representatives can come together to share concerns, expectations, and ideas. The evolution of the MET is a project shaped through thoughtful dialogue with our community, built on responsibility and sustainable long-term coexistence.

NOISE MANAGEMENT

At MET, we’re committed to developing our terminal in a way that respects the surrounding community. Dedicated community and sectoral consultations ensure concerns, such as those about noise, are heard and addressed. In 2023, an independent study by Stantec assessed the impact of the new terminal on noise levels. The findings show that additional commercial flights will have minimal effect, thanks to quieter, modern aircraft (E195, DASH-8) and the anticipated reduction in flight school activity. The study even identified a decrease in noise exposure zones compared to today. This rigorous process, paired with ongoing dialogue, guides our mitigation measures and ensures balanced coexistence with our neighbours.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

For nearly a century, the city has grown around the airport — supported in part by the connections and opportunities it creates. As MET evolves, our commitment remains the same: working alongside the community to ensure the project benefits the region and drives progress. We believe in transparency, open dialogue, and decisions that reflect the needs and aspirations of the people who live and work here.
