MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport Title: Supervisor, Grounds Maintenance Status: Permanent contract
As part of the activities of the MET – Montréal Metropolitan Airport, the incumbent must plan, organize, and coordinate activities within their department related to the smooth running of operations in the movement areas, grounds, fences, electrical network, water network, etc., in order to ensure the smooth running of operations and continuity of services. He or she must ensure the proper functioning and availability of the various infrastructures and facilities, while liaising with internal/external partners on site. He or she maintains a regular and continuous presence in the field and must take into account the various preparations and impacts related to airport operational issues.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for managing human, material, and financial resources (budget) under his or her responsibility.
- Participates in setting priorities and objectives for his or her department.
- Prepares the work plan for summer and winter activities such as: grass cutting, site maintenance, snow clearing and removal, and ice control.
- Performs all administrative tasks related to personnel management (scheduling, timekeeping, leave, etc.).
- Inspects surfaces and products as needed and sends reports on trail conditions to the various stakeholders concerned.
- Replaces team leaders as operational needs require.
- Ensures that work is carried out according to work orders and priorities.
- Ensures that procedures, manuals, and regulations are followed during operations.
- Supervises the execution of the snow removal plan.
- Ensures monitoring and compliance with environmental requirements (inspection and maintenance of waterways, fuel and gasoline tanks, snow storage areas, hazardous materials, etc.).
- Ensures monitoring of wildlife management (contracts, support, supervision).
- Plans and coordinates field work and develops and updates work plans for winter and summer activities related to his department.
- Provides his staff with the appropriate technical expertise for maintenance and operational issues.
- Participates in the evaluation and selection of new employees and staff under his responsibility.
- Coordinates training related to certain equipment for regular employees, seasonal employees, and new employees (driver’s licenses, equipment operation, application of regulations and runway inspections, etc.).
- Liaises with internal/external partners on technical and administrative matters.
- Coordinates site logistics, planning, escorts, and field supervision.
- Coordinates service interruptions based on operational needs and the availability of other trades.
- Makes recommendations on equipment purchasing needs and participates in testing and evaluating new equipment.
- Acts as on-site coordinator for emergency situations.
- May be called upon to replace his/her supervisor as needed.
- Performs any other related tasks related to the position. Responsibilities may evolve based on the needs of the organization, considering that this is a new position.
REQUIREMENTS
- Possess a college diploma in a relevant field, or equivalent.
- Possess five (5) years of experience as a heavy equipment operator, including three (3) years in snow removal operations management, ideally acquired at an airport site.
- Have five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in operations management and employee management.
- Knowledge of procedures and work methods associated with operating heavy vehicles such as graders, heavy trucks, snowplows, snow blowers, tractors, wheel loaders, etc.
- Knowledge of procedures associated with the maintenance and repair of water, sanitary and storm sewer systems, drainage systems, as well as painting, marking, repair and maintenance of various types of roadways.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards in effect at the airport (lockout, confined spaces, PPE, hazardous materials, etc.).
- Knowledge of airport operations (CAR, SGS, standards, etc.) is an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret various construction plans.
- Ability to analyze situations with discernment and make informed decisions.
- Ability to communicate, disseminate, and explain information and details concerning work and equipment.
- Contribute to the achievement of group objectives by demonstrating collaboration and respect.
- Successfully pass the tests to obtain a Type D AVOP airport traffic permit within sixty (60) days of obtaining the position, as well as the restricted radiotelephony certificate.
- Perform duties in a multidisciplinary context, with a 24/7 perspective.
- Be fluent in French and English.
