NATURE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FUNCTION
As an Airport Maintenance Specialist, you will be called upon to perform a variety of tasks on site to keep the airfield safe and in compliance with Transport Canada standards.
Work involving the operation of the following motorized vehicles, or any others in the same category: truck equipped with snowplow and runway sweeper, abrasive spreader truck, snow blower, farm tractor, front-end loader and/or other heavy or specialized vehicles.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Air Operations Manager. The Airport Maintenance Specialist is primarily responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle entrusted to him/her, and for carrying out the various tasks assigned to him/her in a timely and professional manner. The operator must ensure that the vehicle is in good working order, perform minor maintenance and maintain it in a satisfactory state of cleanliness, particularly with regard to bodywork, windows, headlights and lights. His or her work is monitored either by means of reports or log sheets which he or she fills in, or by visits from a more senior employee.
EXAMPLES OF TASKS PERFORMED
Ensures vehicle is in good condition and performs minor maintenance; checks battery, radiator, headlights, signal lights, brakes, tires; reports any defects to supervisor; adds oil as needed and fills tank; washes vehicle and keeps it clean.
- Clears snow from the roadway at the airport.
- Rake the pavement with a truck and an airport broom to clear it of snow and ice.
- Apply de-icing products to runways and taxiways.
- May be called upon to drive other types of heavy vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS
Good knowledge :
- The operation of the motor vehicles concerned, their functioning, their ordinary maintenance, their mechanism, their capacity and their limits; and
- Caution and safety measures to be observed.
Skills :
- Operate motorized vehicles in a safe and responsible manner and get the most performance out of them;
- Maintain vehicles in a clean and serviceable condition and make minor adjustments as required;
- To be tactful and considerate; and
- Be a team player.
- Valid driver’s license (class 1 or 3 is a major asset)
MINIMUM LEVEL OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Ability to read, write and speak French.
Experience :
– Ability to drive the motorized vehicles concerned; and
– Experience on an airport site and an AVOP license are major assets.
