Commitment Statement
Today, we are all called upon to rethink our ways of doing things and to reconsider our approach to development. The aeronautics and airport sectors are no exception to this collective movement that prioritizes sustainable and responsible growth.
MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport firmly believes that the future of the airport industry stands at a crossroads. We must design airport development with the utmost respect for our environment, addressing both greenhouse gas emissions and the essential coexistence with neighboring communities. At MET, we aspire to build an airport model that accommodates only the most environmentally responsible and quietest aircraft on the market. We have chosen to develop an airport aligned with environmental imperatives, focusing on commercial aviation using smaller, single-aisle aircraft.
We have also made the strategic choice to focus on advancing environmental technologies by making our airport site and facilities available to the research ecosystem. We aim to be a hub for innovation and experimentation in green technology. By doing so, we ensure that we remain a pioneer in our sector, integrating best practices while also enabling innovative projects to emerge and make a real contribution to the sustainability of the aerospace industry.
We recognize that the challenge is significant and that much work remains to be done. However, we must be ambitious for the future of our planet and future generations. Today, we collectively have the responsibility to identify our sources of greenhouse gas emissions and implement appropriate mitigation strategies. MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport is committed to making the necessary efforts to move toward carbon neutrality and to being a key player in the resilience of airports.

Sustainability plan
This environmental sustainability plan aims to make the MET a model sustainable airport, by integrating environmentally friendly practices at every level of its operations. The aim is to minimize environmental impact, while fulfilling our mission as an airport for the travelling public. This sustainability plan is based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015. As such, the MET is committed to meeting 11 of the 17 SDGs, excluding those not applicable to its operations. Consequently, concrete measures are planned to reduce GHG emissions, with a particular focus on Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. This includes the use of green technologies and the promotion of commercial aviation using smaller, more efficient single-aisle aircraft.
Cohabitation with wildlife
The presence of wildlife at an airport can disrupt airport operations and, therefore, pose a safety risk.
In accordance with the standards and regulations issued by Transport Canada, the MET has established a wildlife management plan, in particular to eliminate the number of collisions between wildlife and aircraft.
MET’s wildlife management plan is based on an inventory of all species living on the airport’s territory and an analysis of their characteristics and behaviours.
